#MailboxMonday: A Photo Journey of the Book Mail I’ve Forgotten to Share

I always feel really lucky to receive a lot of amazing bookmail–both from friends, authors, publishers, and giveaways.

There’s always an inner battle for me between thanking the person (and I am so grateful to be able to read these amazing books) and trying to not flaunt my privilege in a way, especially because I live in the US and I’m open to so many more opportunities than many of my international friends.

So, first off, I have this little offer for y’all, as a way for me to balance things out!

If you receive less than 20 books a month, drop a link to any of your content you’d like me to check out + potentially boost below (blog posts, art, etc.)!

Not only is it because I am horrible at blog hopping, but also because I need to catch up on all the amazing things happening to y’all! So please please please take me up on this offer! I’ll make sure to peek back at everyone’s sites!

I also want you to remember that the little red X is in the corner of your screens, and if reading this post is bad for your mental health: don’t read it. You have no obligation to read my posts & I want to make sure you’re doing what’s best for you!

Sometimes blogging can feel like a comparison game, even though it shouldn’t, and if you think reading this will negatively affect you, I urge you to turn away. Read a book + do something that makes you happy, not torture yourself over locational privileges.

Now that the intro is out of the way, onto the fun stuff!

I always feel so grateful to have so many people in my corner supporting my blog, and receiving books is one piece of the pie! To all the publishers, authors, friends, and giveaway hosters who send me things: thank you! Thank you for thinking of this little blogger & sending books my way to fuel my reading + blogging + bookish activities!

I’ve taken photos of most of my recent book mail, but I’ve also shared some of October’s on Twitter. I won’t be including much commentary as this post is more about featuring some of my photos, but I am so excited to dive into all of these!

Without further ado, let’s just get started!

Huge thanks to Penguin Teen for this gorgeous package for the Four Dead Queens blog tour! I absolutely adore the mini crown ring and character cards–also, go Eonists!

Keep your eyes peeled for my stop on the blog tour in February!

No joke, I’m pretty sure I screamed when I saw Valerie’s name on the package. So many thanks to The NOVL for this beautiful ARC of The Wicked King! I am so excited to know what all the #OutofContextWickedKing means!!! O.o

Can we talk about very anticipated reads? Strange Days was one of my most anticipated reads of December, and I’m so grateful to Penguin Teen for sending it my way and letting me be part of the blog tour! Expect my review + a really awesome guest post from Constantine to go up on Thursday!

(Seriously. If you like aliens and realistic teens, you need to check this one out!)

Thank you so much to both Laura Silverman (for the bookmark!!!) and Megan Manzano (for the ARC!!!) for being so cool and sending these to me! Jewish YA is killing it in 2019 and I am so excited to read & pass this one on! The excitement is seriously real.

Let’s talk about the very cool + very queer sci-fi King Arthur retelling coming out next March because. Yeah. I’m so excited that I donned a sweater and took some mirror selfies with this book. Huge thanks to Jimmy Patterson for sending me this ARC! I cannot wait to dive in and devour this read!

I don’t know if y’all remember or not, but I blabbered on about postcard sends in one of my blog posts, and here is the fruition of one of those sends! Not only did I get the cool enamel pin that everyone received, but apparently my postcard was one of 100 grand prize winners who got a Map of Days viewfinder! Yes, I totally squealed with excitement! Thank you so much to Penguin Teen for letting teens like me enter preorder giveaways with just an index card and stamp!

Can we talk about how I have some of the coolest friends ever? Nat is so amazing I am in awe of both her and her entire family (go mom!!!) for actually slaying YALLFest! They are the coolest and I am so grateful to have amazing friends who send me books that I’m so excited to read!

Find her on Twitter! Find her on Instagram! Also she has a booktube coming up soon so support that & POC creators!

Did you know that an ARC of Joy’s debut was the first physical ARC I’ve ever received, and I will never let that ARC go? This book is not only such a fighter and a stellar read, it’s also got a sentimental place in my heart!

So it’s fitting that we’re coming full circle with Joy McCullough being so amazing and sending me this hardback with the loveliest note inside.

Speaking of more blog tours, I’m part of the blog tour for Cynthia Hand’s The Afterlife of Holly Chase, a Christmas Carol retelling that you don’t want to miss! I’m about halfway through and it’s really good so far, so huge thanks to Cynthia Hand and Sarah K. (The Book Traveler) for arranging this tour & sending me this read! Expect my post to go live this Friday!

Have I mentioned how Margot Wood & ONI Press are the coolest of the cool & the feed my budding graphic novel obsession? Because they are the coolest and I am so excited to dive into Archival Quality! This one sounds amazing and I love discovering new graphic novels to read! (And the illustrations are gorgeous!)

Rae is not only one of my favorite people in the book community, she also hosted this awesome Escaping from Houdini giveaway and I managed to win? SO COOL. Super huge thank you to Rae for not only hosting this giveaway, but letting me read the new revised ending of book 3, haha!

Find Rae on her blog Thrifty Bibliophile!

Somehow I managed to win not just one, but two I Read YA (Scholastic) giveaways? So like, very cool. Thank you so much for hosting these, and I’m so excited to dive into both novels!

I am always so happy to be part of The Fantastic Flying Book Club‘s blog tours, and these were no exceptions! I enjoyed reading The Color of Lies and Amber & Dusk, so huge thanks to both The FFBC and Scholastic and Blink/Harper Collins for sending me these reads!

And, all of these tweets (click to be taken to the whole thread) are some of the book mail I shared from mid-October! Huge thanks to these wonderful authors & blog tour companies for sending me these amazing books!

much love, vicky

What books have you received recently (any format!)? Is anything specific on your holiday wishlist?

  1. Gosh, how fortunate, you’ve got a great haul. It’s really nice of you to use your platform to help other bloggers. I review diverse books, not only racially diverse but really any books with characters that aren’t mainstream. My most recent post was an emotionally scattered review of Children of Blood and Bone. I’ll leave it here. I’d love any advice you have to offer for someone who once blogged just for amusement but would now like to take it more seriously now that grad school is behind me. Thanks for any help or words of advice!

    1. Thank you! That’s awesome and CoBaB was amazing!!! Honestly, my advice would be to still make sure you’re doing what you love! If blogging isn’t fun for you, it’ll show itself in your work ❤

  2. I love watching book hauls and this made me really happy! I’m so grateful for bloggers like you that make an effort to help other bloggers (i would and do, but my blog is still quite new and I don’t have much of an audience to present to lol). I recently posted an ARC review of Descendant of the Crane by Joan He ❤

  3. Wow you’ve received so many incredible books!! I’m especially excited to read You Asked for Perfect; it’s one of my most anticipated 2019 releases. 🙂 It sounds so interesting and relatable, especially since I’m currently a senior in high school too. (I talk more about more of my most anticipated 2019 releases in my most recent post: https://thethoughtfulvoice.wordpress.com/2018/11/21/most-anticipated-2019-releases/) Thank you so much if you check it out!! 💖

  4. Ooh, so many lovely books here! I’m just dying to read The Wicked King (all those #outofcontextwickedking excerpts are making me so anxious to read it! Hahaha!). And this post has reminded me that I seriously need to start on the Three Dark Crowns and Stalking Jack the Ripper series!

I think that’s so sweet of you that you want to help boost other bloggers through this post as well! I’m awful at blog hopping sometimes too, so I totally understand! Here’s one of my recent discussions from this past month about Blogger Etiquette

  5. I really really really want to thank you for being so sweet and always including this very thoughtful intro before getting into your book hauls posts. As an international blogger being lucky to sometimes get little perks, but definitely not as lucky to get more than 5 books a month, I always appreciate seeing how thoughtful you always are about us and these things. thank you for that ❤ ❤ ❤
I loved seeing your haul, you received some INCREDIBLE books! I'm so impatient to hear what you think of You Asked For Perfect. Laura Silverman's debut, Girl Out of Water, is one of my favorite books of all times, I can't wait to read that one! 😀
I hope you'll love all of these, happy reading Vicky!! ❤

I’ve gotten one arc in the past few years of blogging, a boring book I can’t remember. I’d love to get good books in the mail.

  7. Hi Vicky, just wanted to say that I love how you start this post. It’s important to be thankful for what you have, and also to make sure people look after their own wellbeing. I totally applaud you for that! I can also (happily) say that I am so ridiculously jealous that you have an ARC of The Wicked King!! It’s my second most anticipated read for 2019!! I hope you LOVE it, and I can’t wait to fangirl with you over it in January when I get my hands on a copy in Aus!! 😘

    1. Aww, so glad the intro sit well with you! Balancing thankfulness and privilege is tough (but a good problem to have) and so I’m glad it didn’t come off wrong!

And YES! I was so excited to find out I was one of the readers for The Wicked King!!! I’m so excited (also, what’s your first most anticipated?)
